Choosing the right executive search firm to partner with is a decision worthy of careful consideration. When evaluating prospective search firms to assist in filling your mission-critical roles, one of the leading considerations should be the firm’s track record.

 

The two overriding questions that should be asked are:

 

1) How successful has the search firm in question been at filling similar level positions within your industry? The answer should

be easily backed up by referenceable clients. There is a big difference in claiming you have the ability to perform a specific function and having a verifiable track record of success.

 

2) Does this firm have the overall ability to show quantifiable results in the form of proven metrics? Common metrics include the length of time it generally takes the search firm to fill a position and the average “stick rate” of the candidates they have placed within similar organizations. Stick rate is defined as the percentage of time a candidate placed by a search firm is with that same company, in either the same position or one level higher at the one-year anniversary of that particular candidate being placed. Candidate accuracy and quality can also be measured by the percentage of time the first candidate interviewed is offered and accepts the job.
